Our fourth set of clay, ash, and water samples come from the municipality of Rumst in the province of Antwerp. The nearby town of Boom is historically known for clay pits and brick factories. A huge thanks to local artist Roman for reaching out to us about the abandoned clay pit, and serving as a fantastic guide and extra pair of hands. We first checked the clay close to the water, which was full of impurities, and then collected a small sample from the hillside where the different strata of the earth could be clearly seen.
